We've finally made it. The first group of humans aboard a manned spacecraft to explore a star system outside of Sol. I just can't believe it. We can't look outside and see Centauri B yet, but the computers have a visual on the planet. It's remarkable, and there is definitely lots of water. It's going to be just like looking at Earth, another blue marble, except with a swirl of red. Probes confirmed this decades ago, but I still can't believe that I'm going to get to see entire forests of purplish-red leaves. And the creatures that must have evolved there! It's crazy to think about how just a simple difference in foliage coloration may impact evolution. If life there even has evolution as we know it. It's just crazy. Absolutely insane. My grandfather never thought humans would ever be able to survive a trip outside of our home solar system. Well, I just did! And now my friends and I get to figure out how to survive on an alien planet.
Man, that's crazy, I haven't even thought about it that way before. When we land on that planet, it really is like we're just... restarting? We get support from above via supply packages, but I'm going to have to figure out what's safe to eat, what animals are hostile, which plants are poisonous... It's just like I'm one of the ancient humans on Earth exploring the darkness beyond my own campfire. Who knows what I'll find?
