I have paid the refundable $152 reservation fee for a Telo Truck. Normally, I would not be so excited for a vehicle of any sort. This even breaks with my own rule of never pre-ordering anything (this isn't really a pre-order though, more like an expression of interest), but this truck and the people making it have spoken to what I value in technology. This truck does nothing no other vehicle on the market has done: I see my core values reflected through its design.
This truck does more with less. Many pick-up truck produced nowadays are way over sized. Their noses extend into the vision of the windshield. Their beds are inconveniently tall, making it unnecessarily difficult to lift anything into them. The worst part is that most people who buy these insanely huge pickup trucks don't even use them for their intended purpose. These huge, gas guzzling trucks are mostly used for trips to the grocery store or occasionally hauling something large from Home Depot. It is incredibly inefficient to buy one of these trucks for the average use case.
Telo solves everything that I just mentioned above. It is small, but compact. Somehow, the engineers at Telo figured out how to actually make something that is bigger on the inside. This truck does more with less. Its truck bed is larger than the Ford Maverick's, Ford's premier small form factor truck, yet the Telo is smaller than the Maverick. You can even make the bed longer by collapsing the back seats. Finally, one of my favorite qualities about this truck is that it is, indeed, electric, but that is not the main focus. It's not necessarily an afterthought either -- all Telo wants to do is make a great pickup truck. It doesn't matter that it's electric.
Everything this company is doing is for the consumer. They just want to make the experience of interacting with a Telo at all wonderful and easy. It speaks so much to my belief that technology should not be complicated. Technology should make our lives easier, with as little friction as possible between our thoughts and what we want to execute in reality.
I want to go camping over the weekend and have a place to plug in my electronics.
Done. Telo.
Update 10/14/2026
I now own a Ford Maverick. So much for this post. In fact, I canceled my reservation a few weeks after I posted this :P
